Corfu with Kids

With its wide sandy beaches, and safe warm sea, Corfu is an ideal destination for family holiday. Grab yourself a bucket and spade and the most garish inflatable you can find. Head down to the water's edge and polish your construction skills. If you are lucky, the kids will make friends and you'll be able to slope off to your sun lounger for a flick through that thriller you picked up at the airport. Feeling a bit more active? Kit the little ones out with a mask and snorkel and explore the wonders of the deep. 

A different view is available on the Kalypso Star, a glass bottomed boat that runs trips from Corfu Town several times a day. On board divers attract fish and other marine life, and there is a special sea-lion show at the end! Also departing from Corfu Town, the short boat trip to Vidos is a winner. Spend a day on this tiny, unspoilt island, feeding the rabbits that roam free, spot the peacocks and swim off the rocks - younger visitors will really enjoy it. Legend has it that a tunnel connected the isle to the Old Fortress on the mainland in Venetian times. Get out and explore!

Another surefire hit with kids and guaranteed to get you a vote for the best parents, ever, is a trip to one of the islands water parks. Hydropolis, near Acharavi offers the HydroTube, the Toboggan and the Kamikaze, and even a farm zoo to keep everybody entertained. Aqualand, Agios Ioannis, reputedly one of the biggest in Europe, has a full range of water attractions from the sedate to the scary.
